  1. My dad gave great athletes, female athletes the opportunity to play basketball against men playing mens rules 1949-1977. He did not take no for an answer decades before Title IX. The athletes were good enough to be put on the rosters by Eddie Gottlieb NBA godfather on the same courts as the Celtics, Lakers, Warriors, Nationals, Knickerbockers. Abe Saperstein owner of the original Harlem Globetrotters also put the women's team team on his tours. The team was Dempsey Hovland's World Famous Texas Cowgirls from Chicago. My mom played my aunt played both in the fifties and sixties. It was tough enough to fight your way into sports as a female add playing men's rules against men and winning 80% of a grueling 160 plus games a year. Anyone interested in learning more can contact me at erinhovland@yahoo.com There are women still around who played and would love to share their history and perspectives and experiences.
